The
MardiVols volunteered with the Ozaman Inn today. The Ozaman Inn is a homeless
shelter that houses 96 men a night for free. They also supply lunch and dinner
to all who come, also free of charge. They receive donations from various
grocery stores to help feed people who attend. The MardiVols helped prepare and
serve lunch, and also folded the linens that the men slept in at night.
The impact that we had on the
community was shown through the conversations we had with the “Crew” members of
the Inn. These men work and live at the Inn, and are going through a program to
better themselves. This service related to our theme by giving a neighborhood
and community to those who do not have one permanently. The whole point of the
Ozaman Inn is to give men a home, even if just for the night.
Another fun thing we did today was
go on our night out in New Orleans. We walked around the French Quarter,
exploring the classic architecture and seeing a different side of New Orleans
that we had not experienced yet. For dinner, we went to Pierre Masperos. The
MardiVols experienced classic New Orleans cuisine, ranging from Po-Boys to
shrimp jambalaya. Overall, the MardiVols had a great time this week at New
Orleans, serving the different neighborhoods.
